When I first started writing this book , I wasn t trying to construct a universe to contain some characters and a plot Rather, I was building a platform to explore and deconstruct the paranormal romance and urban fantasy genres which I found often fell back on the use of clich d tropes and plot devices After listening to and reading many discussions about these topics, both through the Vaginal Fantasy Book Club and elsewhere, I wanted to try a different take which still incorporated much of the flavor that makes these books so appealing to so many.Too often the protagonists in these stories are either hapless, passive victims or overpowered ber women who can do no wrong I chose to tell the story of a regular person, without any special powers or abilities, who is thrust into a series of extraordinary circumstances beyond her control She is no...

I copied a quote from the book that encapsulated a bit how I felt about it The rabbit talks, dead men walk, and I am made of bees Don t try to understand it, just accept that it is real and the next few hours will go by much easier Case in point I liked the shifter system, it was a very novel approach to the whole concept At the same time it left me somewhat confused as to how the shift from soul to body actually worked did the manifestations actually change the animal bodies I wondered a bit about that, especially as Lucy kept having sex with various characters in their soul manifestations Then I took the advice of the Queen and quit thinking so much.About the sex I liked that Lucy was no blushing virgin, and hat various lovers on the other hand I was ambivalent about the fact that she did not seem to have a lot of agency about it being in heat and all that Also, I like to have a clear romantic target, and somewhat missed some UST, but that is just my preference The sex was hot, though Use protection though, Lucy As to the meta chapters I enjoyed the depiction of our trio as Lucy s friends I think you did not have to actually know them to get it however there was one chapter where there was a lot of talk about the book club, which I thought went a bit too far into the meta and which I skipped mostly. All in all I enjoyed the book and would definitely read the sequel 3.5 I am rounding it up because Sean is a sweetheart and it s his first book Disclosure I rec...

Amazing Shout out to the Vaginal Fantasy book club hangout without which I probably wouldn t have found this book.I honestly can t think of anything I didn t like Lucy pulled me right into her zookeeper turned kick ass spirit goddess life right from the start She was witty with the snark, smart, compassionate, funny, sexy, and real She owned her life and her desires and she thought for herself despite the constant badgering input manipulation etc from everyone else, cameo friends excluded Anyone from the Vaginal Fantasy hangout will get the cameos, they were fantastic I love that Lucy never came across as a damsel in distress needing to be saved by these powerful spirit beings She always chose her own way and then faced the consequences like a normal living person making the best choices she can with the info she has to go on And that brings me to the realness of the book. ...

I really liked this book I thought the idea was really original, it s shifters but not They are actually ancient spirits that inhabit the bodies of animals The world building is put together really well so everything works, and I love the main character.

This urban fantasy does a lot of things right The main character, Lucy, responds to the people and events in the story in realistic and believable ways She prizes her personal agency above all else, followed closely by the work she loves and her friendships An original new world is presented here, along with several good wrenches thrown into Lucy s journey through these pages to keep things moving along The writing is quite clever at times On the other hand, I was left a bit confused about just how things worked in the world of the spirit ancestors who can do what, and how I also can t say I loved the sexy times aspect, as each encounter was a one off and so the story was lacking any real sexual romantic tension But the book does leave off with the setup for a sequel, which see...

This book is a lot of fun, I laughed out loud at Lucy s wit quite a few times and really enjoyed reading it The take on the werewolf type of story was original and thought out I loved the world that has been set up, I would of liked a bit bit background and set up but I m sure that will come later The plot was fast paced and fun, poor Lucy didn t get much of a break but took it all in her stride and was a great protagonist loved her friendships too There were a few...
